Overview

Wild animals have been kept in captivity for thousands of years, as symbols of power or religious significance and many times as pets for those that have the love and fascination for animals. Now imagine finding all the animals you would go out on a safari to track in one place and stroll between each other, you can smell them, see them up-close and touch some of them to experience that locked away excitement. Let us take you to their home in Entebbe UWEC Zoo and conservation.

What to Expect

With an English speaking guide to take you around the center, have a close up Chimpanzee experience and make a change in their lives. Experience a rare and unforgettable experience to view and interact with Chimpanzees in a near wild like setting while helping to preserve their precious habitat thereby contributing to conservation of their species.

Meet the big cats, lions, Serval and leopards up close enough to wake those hairs on your skin. The Hyenas, Impalas, African Buffallos, hogs and Bushbucks roam around the short grass easy to be spotted. The African big 5 members, giraffes, elephants and White Rhinos, gracefully recognize your presence before they deep theirs heads back into enjoying their vegetarian meal. Snake in the glass, seals, crocks and turtles in the water to tickle the excitement out of you.

UWEC Zoo is a family fun affair, bring the kids along to enjoy camel and donkey rides, cool down at the beach with a swim and take a nature walk in the forest path to relax.

DAY 01

Leave your accommodation in the early hours of the morning to rise with the chimpanzees at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). Formed in 1994 as a trust to transform the neglected Entebbe Zoo, UWECis dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife, educating Ugandans about the benefits of conserving the country’s biodiversity and working with local and international partners to initiate conservation activities throughout Uganda’s national parks and protected areas.

Upon arrival, you will join sanctuary staff who will introduce you to the chimpanzees and give you the opportunity to assist in feeding, observing, and learning all that is involved in their care. When possible, guests will accompany caregivers on a walk with the sanctuary’s young chimpanzees, where you will have intimate one on one interaction with these energetic young orphans as they as they explore their environment, have their morning meal or enjoy special play time with their caregivers.

Behind the Scenes Tour

Join the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre’s (UWEC) professional staff as they guide you through the daily activities required in caring for the centre’s many animals. Formed in 1994 as a trust to transform the neglected Entebbe Zoo, UWEC is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife, educating Ugandans about the benefits of conserving the country’s biodiversity and working with local and international partners to initiate conservation activities throughout Uganda’s national parks and protected areas.

This behind the scenes tour gives you firsthand experience in the behaviour, habitats and activities of UWEC’s diverse mammal, bird and reptile species. Learn how keepers feed the lions, carry out health checks, and bring the animals in at night as you join them in food preparation, observing interaction, and preparing their holding facilities. You may even get to personally meet a rhino. Return to your accommodation for drinks and dinner and to discuss this amazing experience with your fellow travellers.

Keeper for a Day

Leave your accommodation in the early hours of the morning to rise with the animals at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). Formed in 1994 as a trust to transform the neglected Entebbe Zoo, UWEC is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife, educating Ugandans about the benefits of conserving the country’s biodiversity and working with local and international partners to initiate conservation activities throughout Uganda’s national parks and protected areas.

Join UWEC’s keepers in preparing the animals’ food, then jump on the tractor to move from one exhibit to another while you help feed an amazing array of exotic and endangered animals from giraffes to lions to chimpanzees. Get a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes of a rescue centre as you attend keeper briefings, participate in recording the animals’ behaviours or observe keepers perform daily health checks. This full day’s adventure will leave you with the memory of a lifetime.

Return to your accommodation for drinks and dinner and to discuss this amazing experience with your fellow travellers.
